Social Media

Social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, blogs, social bookmarking, etc. allow teachers and media specialist to network, share ideas, collaborate on projects and share resources. Social media is the world in which our students live. The cutting edge media specialist embraces those platforms and uses them in innovative ways in educational settings. When using social media with students, caution should be exercised instead of fear. Often social media is feared by teachers and administrators because of the lack of control of content to which students might be exposed. While this is often true, teachers and media specialists can use social media platforms in controlled settings effectively if caution is exercised and the learning activity is well developed through the creation of closed groups within those social media platforms.
