Picture
Title: The Scrambled States of America

Publisher / Date: Henry Hold and Co. / 2002
Genre: Fiction, Picture Book
Themes: United States, Geography
Summary: What if states could talk? Would their unique personalities come out? When the states have a party, they decide to swap places. At first everyone is happy with their new home and new view but eventually problems arise, like Florida freezing in Minnesota's climate and Minnesota getting sunburned in the sunny South. Before long all the states are unhappy and just want to go back to their original places on the map. Interesting details about each state are creatively dispersed throughout this humorous story.
Curriculum Connections: Grades 2-5 Geography: The United States
Notes: This would be a great read aloud to introduce a unit on US States Map Skills / Geography.
Though it is fiction, it is full of informative bits and pieces about the unique qualities of each state.
