Jess and new girl, Leslie become quick friends, despite the fact that she can out run him. They spend afternoons together in their part of rural Virginia, known only to them as the imaginary land of Terabithia. When tragedy takes his new friend away from him, Jess must learn to cope with loss and eventually honors his friend by introducing his little sister to the land of Terabithia.
